Letter from Chris Campbell

ARGUS LEADER
Twin to Twin Syndrome

Two years ago my wife was pregnant with identical twins boys that were
suffering from Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome. Brendan was clinging to life
and Brady was at severe risk of cardiac arrest. At first we resisted the
prognosis and clung to the sliver of hope that our boys would win the fight.
However, their conditions continued to deteriorate and we were faced with the
most difficult decision of our lives.

I have recently read letters to the editor directed at my family and our
decision to abort our son in order to save his brother. I feel compelled to
clear up some of the facts regarding our situation.A couple examples of the
nature of the letters include - "It ticked me off that someone would not do the
necessary research to save both children and would use this condition to promote
abortion."

Another was titled "Syndrome can be treated."In addition, VYFL has made
definitive statements regarding the appropriate treatment for our case of TTTS.
These individuals have no expertise in maternal-fetal medicine, have never seen
our medical records, and have never consulted with our physicians.

To quote a couple - Dr. Glenn Ridder, "If it's someone's advice to kill
your offspring, that doesn't make a whole lot of sense," Ridder said. "And the
studies prove out that it is not the healthiest choice."This statement is false
and offensive.

Dr. Ridder should really stick to treating sore throats and not prescribing
birth control and quit impersonating a fetal surgeon.
