When it comes to the reproductive lives of women, family planning plays a central role to the health and well-being of all women and access to preventative care is crucial. About half of all pregnancies in the United States are unintended, yet women can avoid unintended pregnancies and plan for pregnancies they do want with the help of publicly funded family planning services.
To further stress the importance of family planning, the Centers for Disease Control had cited it as one of the ten greatest public health achievements of the 20th century.
